Civilian casualties in the US-Iran war. Ukrainian plane accidentally shot down by Iran
By Uli Gellermann.
The 176 people on board of a Ukrainian aircraft were not the first civilian casualties in the long-lasting war of the USA against Iran. The Iranian Army’s air defense reported that the plane had been mistaken for an „enemy aircraft“. It was a case of „human error“. After the murder of the Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, new attacks of the USA on Iran were announced and expected.
The war of the USA against Iran is old. Already with the overthrow of the democratically elected Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh in July 1953, the USA made it clear that they regarded Iran as a kind of colony: With Operation Ajax, British and US intelligence organized the coup. The plan was approved by British Prime Minister Winston Churchill on 1 July 1953 and by American President Dwight D. Eisenhower on 11 July 1953. A budget of $285,000 was allocated by the two governments. With Mossadegh, the nationalization of the Iranian oil industry would have been certain.
Through the Strait of Hormus runs the important route of oil tankers for oil export to Asia, Western Europe and the USA. This lucrative and profitable business is in the hands of Western corporations. But this route is also within the range of Iranian missiles. All ships have to pass through the territorial waters of Oman and Iran to pass through the Strait of Hormus. According to the Geneva Convention on the Law of the Sea, warships must obtain permission from Iran before passing through. The US continues to allow its warships to pass the Strait of Hormus unannounced, thus provoking a latent threat of war and constantly violating Iran’s sovereignty.
Another major bone of contention calling Iranian sovereignty into question is the country’s nuclear program. Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi stated in his New Year’s address in 1974: „We will use nuclear energy and alternative energy sources as soon as possible to reserve oil for the production of chemical and petrochemical products. We should not simply use oil, this precious substance, as an ordinary fuel.“ And it was indeed US President Dwight D. Eisenhower who donated a research reactor to the University of Tehran in 1959 as part of the Atoms for Peace program. Today, the Iranian nuclear program, along with the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, is a major reason for war in the US struggle to dominate Iran.
In order to make countries compliant, the USA is also waging war against children. When Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, was asked in Lesley Stahl’s „60 Minutes“ program in 1996 about reports that 500,000 Iraqi children had died as a result of US sanctions against the country, she coolly said, „I think this is a very tough decision, but I think it’s a price worth paying.“ – The man and country devouring US empire wants to rearm its war against Iran these days: According to information from the Wall Street Journal, the Pentagon will move 200 additional soldiers and six long-range B-52 bombers into the Middle East region in light of tensions with Iran. For this reason, Washington will build an airfield for strategic long-range B-52 bombers at the Ayn al Asad airbase in the western Iraqi province of al-Anbar. So that US bombers can easily fly to Iran from there. From that Iraq occupied by the US after a war of aggression.
If the US war against Iran is not stopped, more people will die. The responsibility for the deaths of the 176 people in the downed Ukrainian plane is assigned by the USA to Iran. The same applies to the death of Iranian children, who receive inadequate medical care as a result of US sanctions: Imports of all kinds into Iran are extremely difficult. Even essential medicines have become scarce and are only available at massively increased prices. The people in Yemen have long known what „collateral“ feels like when they are hit by Saudi weapons in the US proxy war against Iran: 3,081 dead, including 934 children, WIKIPEDIA has been counting since March 2016.
